Abstract

The studying of the Pskovian architecture began at the end of the 18th c. Since then a lot of research papers have been published. These publications require special analysis and study. In this article the author examines important works devoted to the Pskovian architecture of the 16th c., which influenced the history of its study, such as the works by Iu. Spegal’skii, E. Morozkina, V. Sedov. The first part of the article displays several main opinions about the churches of the 16th c. in Pskov and the Pskovian architecture of that time. As a result, the author selects some most important questions in studying Pskov architecture of 16th c.: periodization of Pskovian architecture of this age; the role of patron in creation of a church; Pskovian architecture of the 16th c. as a particular phenomenon in ancient Russian art, etc. However, the main questions of studying the Pskovian architecture of the 16th c. are the problems of dating of the monuments and reconstruction of their original shape. Solving these problems will probably allow to answer some other questions.
