PhD in History, professor, Dean of the Faculty of History at SPbSU from May 2012, director of the Institute of History at SPbSU from April 2014, Head of the department of history of the nations of the CIS countries, ex-president of the “Vainakh Congress” in St. Petersburg.
Born in 1952 to a Chechen family, which had been deported to the Middle East in 1944. Father Khamid Misirpashaev was a linguist, Honoured Teacher of Russia. In 1957 the family moved back to Chechen-Ingush Autonomous Soviet Socialist Republic.
In 1970 he finished high school with the highest results and entered the Leo Tolstoy Chechen-Ingush University. He was sent to study at the Faculty of History to Leningrad State University 3 years later. He graduated in 1975 and since then he has lived and worked in Leningrad – St. Petersburg. His PhD was dedicated to social and economical development of the Gorskaya Autonomous Soviet Socialist Republic in 1920-1924.
From 1979 to 1986 he worked at the Leningrad Hydrometeorological Institute. From 1986 on he has worked at the Faculty of History St. Petersburg State University. He has become the Head of the department of history of the nations of the CIS countries, which he had initiated in 2011. Prior to that he worked at the department of history of management. In October 2011 he was made the executive Dean of the Faculty of History, and was appointed the Dean by the Academic Council in May 2012.
28 April 2014 was appointed the director of the Institute of History at SPbSU.
Academic interests and research: history of nations in the Northern Caucasus area, problems of nation and state building, problems of international relations within Russia.
