Actual Problems of Theory and History of Art

Additional registration is open for the special session of the conference "Challenges in Displaying Modern and Contemporary Art Collections", scheduled for October 5 and 6 at the New Tretyakov (10 Krymsky Val). The registration is open until the beginning of the session (October 5, 12:00).

The session focuses on international museum practices in creating permanent displays of modern and contemporary art collections. The session includes presentations by directors and chief curators of major international museums, including Matthew Gale (head of displays, Tate Modern), Jan Willem Sieburgh (acting managing director, Stedelijk Museum), Bernard Blistène (director, Centre Pompidou), and other experts and museum professionals. The session will be presided by Olesya Turkina, Yaroslava Bubnova, Victor Misiano and Sergey Khachaturov.

The discussions will cover national and international collections of modern and contemporary art, different approaches and methods of displaying and interpreting them (including such issues as exhibition design and buying policies), and ways of reflecting historic collisions of the past in art museums.
