Abstract The article concerns a certain architectural phenomenon of Christian temple constructing that succeeds Classical antiquity. The author points out the features of an ancient temple reconstructed into a Christian basilica by researching a unique architectural monument — the Athena Temple at Syracuse, in which the elements of different times — crepidoma and columns of the Ancient Greek temple of the 5th c. BC, the interior of Christian basilica and the decor of a baroque cathedral — are now combined to form a single structure.
