Abstract

This article focuses on the development of the architectural order in Asia Minor during the Hellenistic and Roman periods. Of particular interest to the author are the impacts of Greek and Eastern architecture on that of the region. In order to make comparison descriptive, architectural monuments of Asia Minor are grouped by type, and compared with the ones resembling from other territories. The “physiognomy” of the Asia Minor architecture, being specific due to a reworked combination of Hellenic and local artistic elements, allows the author to conclude that in the course of time the said interaction led the architecture of the region to a peculiar new quality. The materials presented in the article might be of interest for the studies of the ancient architecture, not only basing on the well-known monuments, but also on the examples of the little-known buildings that are important for understanding of the general architectural trends of the Classical world.
