Abstract The present article covers the complex of problems associated with the so-called Casts of Baia — plaster casts taken directly from Greek bronze originals, used for copying in Roman times. The author considers possibilities for scholars to research the unique material that carries information about lost Greek originals of the highest quality, as well as the methods and techniques of their copying. Special attention is paid to the individual casts of the best condition, reproducing famous Greek statuary types of the 5th – 4th cc. BC in their relationship to epigraphic data and the surviving Roman copies.
