Abstract

Classical legacy as it was presented in the works of Western European and Russian artists of the 20th century is discussed in the essay. Touching upon creativity of Serov, Bakst, Deyneka, Beckmann, Breker, and some other artists, whose work is significant for the discussion, the author attempts to trace the periods within which Classical antiquity was treated differently basically depending upon the exact historical and cultural circumstances of the milieu.
