The Head of the Presidential Heraldic Council, Chief Herald of Russia; State Hermitage Deputy Director for Research.

Georgy Vilinbakhov has worked at the Hermitage from 1969. From 1970 he was appointed curator of banners and military graphics.

In 1971 he graduated from Faculty of History, Leningrad State University. In August 1992 he was appointed Deputy Director for research.

From 1999 he is in charge as the Chief Herald of Russia.

In 2003 he finished his doctoral dissertation “State heraldry in Russia: theory and practise”.

Georgy Vilinbakhov took part in elaborating the law on state symbols.

Teaching

He lectured at University of Tartu, Herzen State Pedagogical university in St.Petersburg (modules “History of Russian culture”, “History of St. Petersburg”, subsidiary historical disciplines). Runs a module on heraldry at St. Petersburg State university. Georgy Vilinbakhov is the Head of the Department of Heraldic Art at Stieglitz State Art and Industry Academy.

Georgy Vilinbakhov has got more than 150 publications on history of Russian culture, military history and heraldry.
